Do You Accept My Insurance?

Our staff is frequently asked the above question and often there is a miscommunication about the answer which is given. To eliminate any misunderstandings, the following clarification is provided for your information.

When our staff says that we “accept” your insurance, what they mean is that we will file an insurance claim with your insurance carrier. What most patients really want to know is whether our practice “participates” with your insurance carrier. “Participation” means that our facility to the contractual relationship with your insurance carrier and we will adjust our fees to the negotiated allowance and you will only be responsible for your deductible, co-insurance, or co-pay.

There are thousands of insurance plans out there and it is impossible for our staff to be knowledgeable about all of them. It is your responsibility to know your insurance coverage and pre-certification requirements. If your plan is not on our participating provider listing, you will be responsible for any balance due after your insurance carrier has paid.

A listing of the insurance carriers that First State Surgery Center has contractual relationships (“participates”) with is below for your reference. If your insurance is not listed, please contact the Surgery Center as insurances are added periodically.

No Show Policy

New patients with 2 consecutive “No Show” appointments will not be eligible to be rescheduled again for 6 months from the second offense with any FSO Physician, Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioner.

Billing

Because surgery involves many different people and services that are all separate entities – the doctor, the lab, the facility, etc. – the billing can be confusing. If you have a question or concern about your bills, don’t hesitate to call us for clarification. Here is some basic information about what to expect:

• You will receive more than one bill. You will get separate bills from the surgery center, the physician, and the anesthesiologist. You may also get bills from radiology or pathology. We can tell you how many bills to expect about your specific case if you ask.
• First State Surgery Center will bill your insurance company for our facility level portion of your expenses, as a convenience to you. Unfortunately, we cannot do the same for the rest of your surgery care, although the various offices that provide care will be able to help you.
• First State Surgery Center participates with Medicare, Workers Compensation, Auto Insurance and most major insurance plans.
• You are responsible for any deductible, co-insurance, or balance not paid by your insurance carrier.
• If you do not have insurance, you must make arrangements to pay for your surgical care on or before the day of your surgery. We will provide you with an estimated cost of your care prior to surgery.
